This is an artificial collection composed of materials donated by multiple Italian-American local unions, such as the International Ladies’ Garment Workers Union (ILGWU), Local 48, Italian, Cloak, Suit and Skirt Makers Union; ILGWU, Local 89, Italian Dress and Waistmakers Union; and the United Shoe Service Union, Local 563. The contents of the collection consist of printed materials, including rare books, pamphlets, and souvenir journals. It contains unpublished manuscripts of poetry, drama, anarchism, socialism, anti-fascism, syndicalism, and the beginnings of trade unionism. The majority of the publications were printed in the United States by radical publishing houses for distribution among Italian immigrant workers. The collection also contains microfilmed meeting minutes for Local 48, Local 89, and Italian American Labor Council, as well as newspapers from the Italian American labor movement.
